Chasing What We Can't Have

Chasing what we can’t have...or don't need.

How often do you find yourself chasing something that is not obtainable? Sometimes I push and push only to surrender in exhaustion that sometimes what I want just isn’t meant to be. God watches and knows….he is patient while I learn that lesson in life.
See this Mama duck and her babies?
See the giraffe chasing them?
See how she gets away?

What would a giraffe do with a Mama duck and babies if it could keep or catch them? They don’t have a long term future together! Does God sit patiently and wait for us giraffes to learn that we can’t hang with the ducks? Sometimes you have to let things go….I’m going to do that this week. I’m tired of chasing the wind….God, I surrender to your wisdom – shine down on me. I will accept this knowledge with the grief I bear, I’ll move on and yes, I’ve grown in wisdom and knowledge from my experience. Amen.

Ecclesiastes 1:16-18 (New International Version)
16 I thought to myself, "Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge." 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.
18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.

Bar Mitzvah Saturday - Zach Grant

Our nephew, Zach Grant's bar mitzvah gives us cause to respect another religion and expose the children to a different culture than what we practice. Of course, a 2 hour service tests anyone – and they did great. They loved throwing the marshmallows in cellophane….OK, I admit we ate one – or Soph did – she was barely hangin’ in on the end….the marshmallow helped. Later, when the “Western” themed party got way – the kiddos had a blast. Courtney and Soph didn’t like the noise level……the boys and I rode the mechanical bull! Fun times, family times…..the boys want to know if they can have bar mitzvahs – the answer is "no, we aren’t Jewish! "

Busy but not a busybody!

OK – 4 kiddos keeps me hopping – here is the summary.
  • Parade, band marched.
  • Photo session.
  • Planting flowers for therapy – oops, put my back out!
  • Mother’s Day – ups and downs, massage, cranky kids from too many fun days and late nights!
  • Family hair cuts – from buzz to trim to new doo!
  • Busy last days of school - track meet, band concert, field trips.
  • Baseball starts before Dodge ball ends…..sigh…..
  • I’m loved and I love~!

2 Thessalonians 3:11 We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies.

Bike nor Barbie

Two plus years in foster care. This is the smile of a girl who came without a bike or a Barbie. This is the smile of a girl who now has a bike and Barbies. Stuff doesn't equate love - don't get me wrong.....but I love the joy of giving when it is received and appreciated like this.

This is what being a kid is all about....ride on girl on that bike named "Misty!"

Hands in the Socks

I love this picture of Sophia with her hands in her socks. She is into the phase of her life where she is trying to put her own clothes on – that is hard work, pants, socks, shoes, we’ve seen some funny attempts, bless her!

She was working so hard on getting those socks on her feet, but when the toes don’t go in the holes as easy as the hands – it was simpler for her to just put the socks on her hands. To watch her was fun – and she was so happy with them on her hands, busy dusting my cupboards and spinning about – it just made me smile.

Then, as I pondered these pictures later, it made me aware that there are times I need some socks on my hands too. Sometimes we are so busy trying to put a square peg into a round hole – we just need to take an easier road and lighten up our load. I’ve had some loads here this last while and still do – my brother with brain cancer isn’t getting “better,” a church situation has created a wound that will take some time to heal, my burdens are like everyone’s out there….but I don’t’ want to dwell on them and be negative, that won’t help me….there are always burdens around us and in the world. I do need to “steam” in them for awhile so I can find my true healing and move on. I don’t like to say “forgiven” and still hold a grudge – I’m better to admit I’m mad and process it – because I do come out to the other side, and it feels much better when I know my forgiveness is TRUE (but that is a whole blog in itself!).

So, for now I’ll find a way to put the socks on my hands and move on. God tells us he is there for us, to call on him, he can give us peace. When we allow him to put the socks on our hands, we can keep going. So…..I’m going to do that.

My favorite church benediction from the “Priestly Blessing” Numbers 6:24-26 (I love this!)
24 " ' "The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." '
