A Day of Diguise

While I'm not a fan of the dark side of Halloween and won't allow my children to be witches or scary monsters, I love the challenge of creativity - but this year was busier than some (see last years blog) so we went a different route.  Annual 72nd Fireman's Ball in town - a safe community contest event.  Soph placed 3rd and Tobias placed 3rd.  We handed out full sized candy bars again this year - final number before the porch lights went off - 141.  Up 9 from last year.  Was wonderful weather and the time change kept people out longer with a weekend night too.  Best costume seen:  Jesus.

My oldest Anthony handed out candy as he didn't dress up this year - cut them off at 6th grade.  Amazingly, we had the best talk on the front porch and that alone time was awesome - I learned a few things.  He had a plan some friends were supposed to come by for him - they didn't show, but it turned out OK.  Next year I'll help him make a better effort to connect with some of his peers.  Berkley didn't like the doorbell ringing - but sat on the porch with us some too.  Praying for safety for everyone on this secular night.

Dada outside…play

Sophia’s words…. “dada outside…play.”

He melts my heart…..he is such a soft soul.

I admire him – many Dad’s don’t spend time with their children or play with them.  He is very hands on. From homework late at night – to computer games, soccer, etc….he is there for them.  Setting examples and showing them peaceful ways of being….my soft soul….my soul mate. Thank you Lord – don’t let me take him for granted!

Praise the Lord

Psalm 146

1 Praise the LORD. [a]
Praise the LORD, O my soul.

2 I will praise the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

3 Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortal men, who cannot save.

4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.

5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD his God,

6 the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
the LORD, who remains faithful forever.

7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets prisoners free,

8 the LORD gives sight to the blind,
the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
the LORD loves the righteous.

9 The LORD watches over the alien
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

10 The LORD reigns forever,
your God, O Zion, for all generations.

Praise the LORD.

Sisterhood Bonds

Oh the chatter of tea and play overheard...The bond of sisterhood has grown here.
OK - we are really into nude babies...take the clothes off!  Yes, I know - learning process....so much easier to remove than put on.  I love that despite 8 years difference Courtney plays with her, loves dolls too and the healing powers of a small girl, small table and some dolls makes magic happen.

Dance upon a falling star

Courtney has been playing volleyball. She loves the social aspect, but to be honest….isn‘t very coordinated. She is young and time can change that especially if she enjoys it. But she doesn’t. She cringes when the ball comes near her, actually ducks from it and complains about it hurting when she bumps it. Her serves – they barely go over. Being a volleyball lover who played for many years – this has been painful to watch. I want her to try different things to “find her groove.” She takes piano, has done swim lessons (because she didn’t know how to swim), etc. She’ll do the basketball clinic to “test” her ability and see if she enjoys it – but she is already saying she just wants to do dance and cheer.

So I enrolled her in a short dance clinic that performed at a football half time home game. Oh my goodness. She loved it…..it made me realize that just finding something she enjoyed and would bring her happiness was all I really wanted for her. So I quickly got her into a local dance class that had already started…..she is one happy leotard wearing gal. I smile when she smiles. Isn’t that what Mom’s do?

This little one – she smiles a lot and makes us ALL smile a lot too!

So, may your week be one in which you find your groove to “Laugh, Dance and Sing."

Tree Ring of LIfe

Old silos abound in Kansas , many are no longer used as farms disappear and become “hobby” farms or the house/barns are sold off with a few acres as the land goes to larger commercial farming. Smaller family farms are becoming a thing of the past as they are too hard a way to maintain a living unless you are a large farming operation.

This silo belongs to a friend of mine. He hobby farms. When I bug Jay that he should remove the silo tree ring as he’ll have a perfectly tall straight tree, he says if he did that, the tree wouldn’t be strong enough and would fall over with the first wind that came along. Given the tree circumference, as well as its protected environment the tree is actually small and because it hasn’t had to withstand directional wind, it wouldn’t be able to stay up and support itself. It changed how I looked at this tree, instead of trapped, it is protected. This farm deceased silo is keeping it safe, harboring it as it stretches to the sunshine, branching out on top.

Revelation 2:7 says: He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

It reeks of life lessons we can learn from this tree’s situation:

•We are weak like the tree, only able to branch upward with God’s grace and guidance. Without him we too will fall. He is the Silo holding us.

•Despite its poor condition having to struggle for the sunshine and water, it still grew. Despite our trials in life, we too grow ~ because of them.

•This tree has silo community. We have community with our faith family; they support and encourage us to grow as Christians.

•This tree’s destiny is unknown. Jay may take the silo down, or a storm may blow it down. Either way, it lives day to day not knowing its future. We too live one day at a time with our destiny in God’s hand. I don’t know if I’ll die in a car crash today, get sick tomorrow with something terminal or live to be a 100+. None of us know from day to day when God will call us home, but he will call us.

OK – I’ll stop here. You tell me, what does this tree say to you?

Polks Farm Market

Polks Farm Market  ~ We stop here every year to buy pumpkins.  Steve loves their Velencia peanuts from NM - but they won't be in until later this month.  Clasic pic - Sophia won't release her paci for anything, Steve looks like he'll be throwing that pumpkin at me with his love for being in pictures, Anthony, always the face maker, Tobias with the biggest pumpkin and Courtney with her wild stylin' socks she was counting the comments she received throughout the day.

Was Courtney's first Polks Farm Market stop and she loves her gourdy pumpkin!
